"This [head is] part of an extensive series of ancient copies of one of the most famous statues from antiquity, The Aphrodite of Knidos.
Sculpted by the Athenian artist Praxiteles [active around 370-330 BC], the original is known from many other, more complete replicas and numerous ancient literary sources.
The statue, dedicated around 350 BC, depicted the goddess at her bath.."
