White marble statue
Discovered in 1726 at the Campanian Amphitheatre of ancient Capua [the pre-Hadrian amphitheatre is attested from 2 BC], restored, preserved at the MANN, Inv. 6019.
The statue may once have belonged to a group, together with Venus and the so-called Adonis figures also excavated in 1726, decorating the upper level of the arches.
Late 1st century BC - Early 1st Century AD.

I had seen this beautiful fragmented statue many times before, yet only this time felt the urge to focus on intimate, portrait-style close-ups, am not quite sure why.
