MUSEE ARCHEOLOGIQUE SAINT-PIERRE de Vienne, France

• MUSEE ARCHEOLOGIQUE SAINT-PIERRE de Vienne, France:
I recently stumbled upon some long-forgotten photos from December 2021, taken in a small yet fascinating archaeological museum in the town of Vienne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, France (not far from Lyon), on my way to Paris.
Feels rather atmospheric to look at them now, at a time when temperatures are soaring to +36–38C and beyond..
The museum itself is housed in one of the oldest churches in France, the Church of Saint-Pierre [5 AD].
My pics are nothing more than a few casual snaps taken with the mobile camera of my old smartphone, yet they seem to capture something of the place’s character - what do you think ?..

Pic. 2:
Fortuna-Tyche [or Tutela]
Found in the thermal baths of the Palais du Miroir in Sainte-Colombe in 1894; restored in 2004
Marble
2nd-hlf of the 2 or early 3 centuries AD.
'The sculpture was probably placed in a niche in the cold room of the baths, together with other statues from the same site.
It reproduces a well-known Hellenistic type: the goddess Fortune, wearing a chiton belted at the waist and a cloak [himation], with a diadem and a mural crown in the form of a crenelated tower symbolising the city protected by ramparts.
She leaned on a rudder [now lost] resting on a sphere, while in her left hand she carried a cornucopia.
A recent restoration has revealed traces of red-ochre and pinkish paint on her garments and hair.
Representing public prosperity and abundance, this statue is a fine example of the influence of Italianate sculptors working in Vienne.'

'This female tragic mask likely once adorned a monumental tomb.'
