AMAZONOMACHY : Heracles and Hippolyte

• AMAZONOMACHY : Heracles and Hippolyte [Upper Register]:
Side A of Attic Black-figured Amphora made in one of the Athenian workshops,
Ca 550 BC.
"A Greek Amphora for the Etruscan Market:
The Etruscans [Greek: 'Terrhenoi'] admire Greek decorated pottery, imitating it themselves or having it made by Greek immigrants.
And the export trade caters to this demand:
The 'Tyrrhenian' Amphorae from a specific Athenian workshop from c. 575-525 BC virtually all end up in Etruria.
The images are unmistakably Greek.
For example on this Amphora showing the Battle of the Amazons Heracles - wearing a lion skin - can be seen trying to seize the belt of the Amazon queen Hippolyte."
